Hyatt Fisherman's Wharf Completes Renovation of Hotel's Meeting Space

Inspired by its location in San Francisco’s #1 destination, Hyatt Fisherman’s Wharf has just completed a comprehensive one million dollar renovation of the hotel’s 19,000+ square feet of function space.

According to General Manager Matt Humphreys, “We are very pleased with the outcome of our recent renovation and the reaction from clients has been overwhelmingly positive.”  He continues, “The new décor was designed to reflect the hotel’s proximity to San Francisco’s most popular destination along the Waterfront in Fisherman’s Wharf.  As a result, the colors, images and furnishings are reminiscent of the San Francisco Bay, the fishermen community and the merchants along Fisherman’s Wharf.”

While incorporating the silver shimmer off the water’s surface and the netting used for fishing, along with the beige brown color of the sand, the new meeting space showcases a contemporary, pleasant look and feel.   Designed by Chicago’s Simeone Deary Design Group, the renovation includes new fireplaces, custom hand blown glass chandeliers, shimmering fountain and wall sconces, as well as a cozy area that serves as a quiet workplace or for convenient, one-on-one networking.  Additionally, the lounge provides additional power outlets for mobile devices and lap tops.
For planners interested in inquiring about availability, please contact Director of Sales and Marketing, Marianne Milton at (415) 486-4415 or marianne.milton@hyatt.com.

Hyatt Treats Children To New Organic Menu Created By Chef Alice Waters

Hyatt today announced details of its new organic and seasonal children’s menu created exclusively for Hyatt by renowned food pioneer and chef, Alice Waters. The new menu, featuring a three-course organic meal, marks the first hotel project for Waters and complements Hyatt’s groundbreaking “For Kids By Kids” menu, providing children more nutritious, fresh and interactive offerings. The new children’s food and beverage offerings at Hyatt are grounded in the brand’s industry-leading philosophy Food. Thoughtfully Sourced. Carefully Served., promoting healthy people, a healthy planet and healthy communities, and will be offered in all full-service Hyatt hotels and resorts throughout the U.S. and the Caribbean.

Waters, known for her culinary philosophy that maintains cooking should be based on fresh, organic, and seasonal ingredients that are produced sustainably and locally, worked with Hyatt to develop a full organic meal offering including a salad, chicken entrée and a dessert.

“All children deserve to eat real food,” said Alice Waters. “I wanted to do a small, three course meal, within the context of Hyatt’s initiative, that could be sourced exclusively from organic farms across the country. Of course it’s about taste and ripeness and seasonality—but it’s bigger than that, too: it’s about supporting the people who are taking care of the land for our future generations.”

“As Alice Waters is a pioneer, we feel this aligns perfectly with Hyatt’s commitment to being a leader in our industry as it relates to the health of our youngest guests,” said Susan Santiago, vice president, food and beverage, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, North America. “We’ve done extensive research and it shows that kids have a more sophisticated palate than ever, and so working with Alice is a natural fit.”

Alice Waters’ menu at Hyatt features:

* Romaine Lettuce Hearts, Carrot Curls and a Radish Rose with Lemon Vinaigrette for Dipping. “Contrary to prevailing beliefs, getting kids to eat vegetables is not difficult. We simply have to meet their most basic impulses: to eat something that is engaging and that tastes delicious,” said Waters. “The aliveness of textures and colors, as well as the ‘do-it-yourself’ nature of this salad, makes this universally appealing to kids.”

* Grilled Chicken with Pesto Sauce, Roasted Potatoes and Cherry Tomatoes. “This is a dish of simple grilled and roasted ingredients, served with a pesto sauce. The trick with something so straightforward is to be confident that the ingredients are the best that they can be.”

* Strawberry and Orange Slices served with a Sweet Juice in a Real Orange Cup. “The goal here is to appeal to kids’ imagination about ‘dessert,’ without feeding them unhealthy, sugary food,” said Waters. “A real orange cup filled with a luxurious amount of perfectly sliced ripe fruit feels special, and the juice is made with a touch of honey to sweeten it.”

To add another layer of fun to mealtime, Hyatt will launch a Flavor Journey online experience in September where kids and parents can learn more about organic foods, the “For Kids By Kids” menu and enjoy games and activities. Guests can use a QR code on the “For Kids By Kids” menu to link to the site.

The Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary May 27, 2012!

The Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary

Did you know?

Strauss, the designer of the Golden Gate Bridge, was chief engineer in charge of overall design and construction of the bridge project. However, because he had little understanding or experience with cable-suspension designs, responsibility for much of the engineering and architecture fell on other experts. Strauss' initial design proposal (two double cantilever spans linked by a central suspension segment) was unacceptable from a visual standpoint. The final graceful suspension design was conceived and championed by New York’s Manhattan Bridge designer Leon Moisseiff.

How are you going to celebrate?

You could……

The Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary May 27, 2012!

The Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary

Did you know?

Although the idea of a bridge spanning the Golden Gate was not new, the proposal that eventually took hold was made in a 1916 San Francisco Bulletin article by former engineering student James Wilkins.[12]San Francisco's City Engineer estimated the cost at $100 million, impractical for the time, and fielded the question to bridge engineers of whether it could be built for less. One who responded, Joseph Strauss, was an ambitious but dreamy engineer and poet who had, for his graduate thesis, designed a 55-mile (89 km) long railroad bridge across the Bering Strait, At the time, Strauss had completed some 400 drawbridges—most of which were inland—and nothing on the scale of the new project. Strauss's initial drawings were for a massive cantilever on each side of the strait, connected by a central suspension segment, which Strauss promised could be built for $17 million.

How are you going to celebrate?

You could…..

Share your Bridge painting, drawing, or other artistic masterpiece

Take a picture of you or your friends holding a “Happy Birthday Golden Gate
Bridge!” sign at your favorite local bridge—a drawbridge, a footbridge, or any bridge at all—and share it with GGB

Take a photo from the Bridge on your 2012 birthday and share it

The Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary May 27, 2012!

The Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary

Did you know?
Many wanted to build a bridge to connect San Francisco to Marin County. San Francisco was the largest American city still served primarily by ferry boats. Because it did not have a permanent link with communities around the bay, the city's growth rate was below the national average. Many experts said that a bridge couldn’t be built across the 6,700 ft (2,042 m) strait. It had strong, swirling tides and currents, with water 500 ft (150 m) in depth at the center of the channel, and frequent strong winds. Experts said that ferocious winds and blinding fogs would prevent construction and operation.
