Seamen's Memorial Chapel at Fisherman's Wharf


Just like clock work you can hear their melody every hour on the hour and every fifteen minutes in-between. It may not look like Big Ben or sound like St. Peter’s Basilica on Easter morning, but this modest little chapel draped amongst San Francisco’s historic fishing fleet, provides the sweet sound of its bells for all to hear. Built over 30 years ago, the Fishermen’s and Seamen’s Memorial Chapel has served as a haven for visitors, locals and most importantly as a memorial for those lost to the sea. Read on…

A large selection of the items in Edward Galland Zelinsky’s collection, Musée Mécanique is home to hundreds of antique electronic games, ranging from orchestrions, coin operated pianos, antique slot machines, and animations, down to small bird boxes and Playland’s notorious “Laughing Sal.” This historic “mechanical museum” is located adjacent to Red and White Fleet’s loading docks at Pier 45 in San Francisco. The Buena Vista — Home of the World’s First Irish Coffee


The original building where the Buena Vista sits today at the corner of Hyde and Beach streets was a boardinghouse until 1916 when the landlord converted the first floor into a saloon. That saloon was named the Buena Vista. (“Good View” in Spanish) and it served as a warm meeting place for hundreds of fishermen and handlers who worked for the nearby Sardine Cannery.
At Buena Vista, they could take in a whiskey while scouting the bay for incoming fishing boats. In 1952, with the help of a Pulitzer-Prize winning writer, the Buena Vista introduced to the world it’s now famous Irish Coffee. Read on…
